Professional Drone Surveying Workshops
Learn systematic workflows for achieving accurate and scalable results from an Award Winning Chartered Land Surveyor
What the workshops cover
The workshops cover the fundamentals of utilising drone technology for land surveying. The goal is to increase your knowledge of the steps involved in utilising drones and GNSS ground control to capture and process high quality data. Workshops are tailored your specific needs and typically last 1-2 days

Survey Theory & Design
Learn about survey principles and how to design and plan your survey. In this section we also cover the various accuracies attainable from different methodologies and technologies.
Equipment Selection & Setup
This section is about the GNSS, Image Sensor and Aerial Platform technologies and how they influence the ‘survey system’. We also cover best practice when it comes to setting up equipment to attain optimal data capture results.
Field Work
Here we learn about the practicalities of utilising the equipment in the field. How to conduct a site recce, install ground control and conduct image acquisition. Including on-site QA checks.
Data Processing
This section covers aspects of data preparation and processing with the goal being to get the best results from the data available. It includes topics such as: colour management, aerial triangulation, GNSS data analysis and photogrammetry quality control checks etc.
Survey Deliverables and Reporting
Here we look at the typical outputs that can be produced utilising popular photogrammetric processing software such as, orthophotos, point clouds and digital elevation models. We also look at what goes into a Survey Report.
FAQ
Who are the Drone Surveyor Workshops for?
The workshops are ideal for Construction, Engineering and Heritage organisations or professionals looking to take drone survey services in-house and develop standardised scalable workflows of data capture and processing for their teams. The workshops are also ideal for already practicing professionals looking to conduct CPD (Continuous Professional Development) to ensure they are up to speed with best practices and efficient workflows.
Who are the workshops not for?
The premise of the workshops is to act as a knowledge accelerator and therefore they are well suited to individuals with a basic or intermediate knowledge of surveying; as such, it is not suited for very highly experienced drone survey professionals. Having said that, they are most welcome to join for the CPD element and to benchmark their approaches. At this time, the workshops are also not for those seeking to go into detail on Deliverable production i.e. producing topographic mapping in CAD or going further with BIM, GIS or Digital Twin workflows. The focus of the workshops is very much on how to capture and process data in an accurate, systematic and scalable manner.
How do the Workshops differ from other ‘drone survey training’ on the market?
All training is delivered by Charlton, an RICS Fellow and well regarded knowledge catalyst with a high integrity and friendly approach. He setup the Drone Surveyor Workshops to save individuals and organisations the potential costs associated with endless hours of desktop research and the frustrations associated with the trial and error methodology. He brings to the workshops his knowledge as a recognised industry expert and contributor to international best practice guidance on aerial surveying.
I’m looking to gain professional membership and professional qualification, will these workshops help?
The workshops are an ideal way to get up to speed with best practice. The content covered is compliant with the relevant competencies and modules of both the RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) and CICES (Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors) making it ideal for candidates pursuing either the RICS Geomatics Pathway or CICES Geospatial Engineering Pathway and specialising in Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.
